Q: Water Ballast compared to Reverse Chine as asked to Peter Webster (Editor of F&B)
A: The flooded keel system beats the deep vee and reverse chine(s) design hands down, as far as stability at rest is concerned. No question. A royal flush to a pair of fours.
It is a very old design technique that suits ally construction, and is seriously hard to do in fibreglass.
Spacecraft were the first to introduce the water ballast / flooded tunnel system into plate aluminium vessels in Australia.
Almost a decade before others had even thought about it.
